Last year a new challenge was added to make rocket science a bit more interesting, Students had to land a rocket in a specific area. After discovering with variable to control many students were able to complete this challenge. This year's 5th graders had to design a rocket that would fly through one of the 3 moving targets set up in the tech lab. One problem that needed to be solved was to figure out the maximum size of the fins. Students learned how to measure the diameter of circles. They also used the scientific method to identify which variable needed to be controlled to help them reach their goal. The constant movement of the target was hard to figure out, however, the Cooper Cougars did not give up. With a little help from NASA's Mars in a Minute video, the 5th graders were able to put together the right combination of variables that allowed them to be successful.
