Students were able to use a drone and a 3D drawing program to create an arm extension for there drone. Students had to use the metric system to measure the distance between propellers and find a location for the arm extension.
Next, students went on a top secret search and rescue mission to collect mission critical supplies. Students needed to use these supplies to get out of the area before the drones were spotted. |
Pilot TestingStudents were given the opportunity to go through pilot training. They were able to control the parrot drone with two sides- one hovering and one directional.
|
Reading coordinates to secure the correct landing zoneStudents were given certain landing zones where their materials were located. Students needed to read the coordinates correctly and find the exact locations.
|
Working togetherStudents MUST work together: pilot, navigator, material gatherer, and locator.

To follow up on their drone activity, 5th grade students were able to attend a nearby Air Force base. They were led by the Civil Air Patrol and made rockets, learned about mechanical advantage, and the importance of the honor guard.
